Yep, there is an answer to this riddle, and the name of the book needs to be more specific. For all I know, you might just be talking about the Disney movie. Heh.

In one of the original versions, it reads in the postscript that the answer is 'It is nevar put with the wrong end in front.' but editors thought it was a typing error and didn't understand the word-play. In later editions they corrected what they saw to be a spelling mistake, and the clever answer was lost.
